Southport Broadwater Parklands Master Plan
Gold Coast City Council

Spanning 3km over the edge of one of Queensland's most beautiful marine areas, the Southport Broadwater Parklands are in the process of becoming one of the world's great foreshore parks.

Plan C were engaged by Gold Coast City Council to build the community's ideas into the Southport Broadwater Parklands Master Plan. The consultation was aimed at exploring local and broader community views, usage and visions for the Southport Broadwater Parklands.

In addition to the targeted consultation carried out as part of the Southport Broadwater Parklands redevelopment consultation, Plan C also produced a 'Speak Out' event to attract the interest of the wider community. The objectives of the day were to gain direct input and participation from a wide range of community members, as well as create broader awareness of the project through a live open-air radio broadcast. The event was boosted by lots of fun activities for families including BBQ, music, free activities for the kids, jumping castle, celebrities and giveaways. Altogether, this event attracted a lot of positive community interest.

Based on community input gathered by Plan C, the concept for the Parklands were further refined, and Stage One redevelopments have now begun. There is no doubt that this amazing new park is going to become a much-loved icon for the Gold Coast.

The Marketing, Communications and Community Consultation Program for the project was a finalist in the 2010 IPAA (Institute of Public Administration Australia) Best Practice in Local Government Award.

Green Heart Master Plan
Gold Coast City Council

(Planning Institute of Australia QLD Environmental Planning: Conservation or Rural Award Certificate of Merit 2008)

The Green Heart or Guragunbah/ Merrimac-Carrara floodplain area is approximately the area bordered by the Nerang River to the north, the Robina Parkway to the east, the Pacific Highway to the west and Robina and Mudgeeraba in the south. The 'Green Heart' is comprised of about 1800 hectares of mixed bush land, grazing land and existing development, including golf courses. Council recognised the enormous potential of this area to provide significant open space and recreational opportunities for the existing and growing Gold Coast population.

Plan C were engaged by Gold Coast City Council to work with the community to create an innovative plan for the 'Green Heart' of Gold Coast City. The plan aimed to further improve our city's lifestyle and preserve the precious environment for future generations.

Scarborough and Endeavour Parks
Moreton Bay Regional Council

Moreton Bay Regional Council has developed master plans and commenced construction for improvements to Endeavour Park and Scarborough Beach Park. Endeavour Park and Scarborough Beach Park are key destinations for local and regional users. These foreshore parks are well established and see a high level of use enjoyed by visitors. Both of these parks are experiencing increased demand for weddings, events and passive recreation opportunities such as picnics.

Plan C teamed up with landscape architecture consultancy VERGE to run a community engagement program to capture the community's feedback and assist in providing a consistent long-term vision for the future development of the parks. Plan C's consultation process enabled participants with several opportunities to be involved. In the first phase, participants were asked to provide information on park usage and ideas for improvement. The second round of consultation provided participants with an opportunity to indicate their preferred elements within each draft Plan. Feedback was sought using a variety of consultation methods including events in the park, letter box drops to local residents, online surveys, and interviews with local residents and businesses; and was followed with a final notification stage of stakeholder notification and a library display.
